Muslim weddings are known for their simplicity and elegancy. In Urdu, we called Muslim wedding as Nikah. The importance of Muslim wedding has significant role in Islam religion. The Muslim wedding rituals and customs greatly vary from different religions. Every rituals and customs of Muslim wedding is related to the practices that prevail in the world of Muslims. Islamic pre/post wedding rituals may vary around the world due to different rules and regulations by the government.
The Muslim bride and groom are instructed according to the Islamic law which is prescribed in the book of the Quran. The Muslim wedding signifies the amalgamation of two soul mates. The Muslim wedding has a vital purpose to bring lots of happiness between couples, and to have union between two families. There are many rituals that take place before and after the Muslim wedding. Pre Wedding Rituals
Isikahara, Iman –Zamin
The most important and starting phase of Muslim wedding is isikahara. In this pre-wedding ritual, the almighty have to take the permission from spiritual head to solemnize the marriage. After the approval, the mother of groom visit to the bride house with Imam- Zamin and sweets. Iman- zamin is basically a gold coin which is folded in a soft silk cloth. This cloth is then tied on the hand of bride. And both described ceremonies are the most important Muslim pre-wedding ritual.

Next ceremony after iman- zamin is mangni which is also known as engagement ceremony. In this ritual, the parents of groom visits to the girl house along sweets, clothes, jewelleries, etc. In mangni, both the couples are supposed to exchange their rings with each other. The elder’s gives good wishes and blessings to the couple along with sweets, fruits, cash token etc.
The Mandha And Mehandi
The manjha and mehandi ceremony is the two most awaited rituals by the couple and family .In manjha ceremony, the turmeric and oil paste is applied to the skin of bride by her family member, friends, and relatives. The bride is beautifully dressed in a yellow color dress. According to the Muslim perception, the bride is not allowed to go out from her house after manjha ceremony. Mehandi is one of the favorite rituals of all the women. Every bride waits for this golden day in her life. Mehandi ceremony takes place before one day from nikah. In this pre wedding ritual, lovely and beautiful Mehandi are applied on the hands of brides. Even the family and friends of the bride also applied Mehandi on their hands to enjoy their precious occasion.

The most important ceremony is nikah in which the Muslim religious priest is supposed to do prayer for wedding. In the Muslim wedding, the family member of boy and girl are supposed to sit each other opposite direction. The groom mother gives the mahr to the bride. The maulvi perform the prayers and ask from the couple one by one if they are agree to marry with each other. This ritual is called as ijab-e-qubul in Muslim wedding. After the approval, a nikhanam is signed by the couple. The couple takes the blessings from their elders and family members.
Post Wedding Ceremony
After the nikha, now it’s time for farewell of bride. This is an emotional ceremony which is very difficult for bride and her parents. Then, on arrival of bride in new house, a warm welcome takes place for her. The newly married couple is welcomed by groom mother with a holy book Quran. The bride is greatly welcomed in a new house with love and happiness.

Another Muslim post wedding ceremony is walimah which is known as reception. After the wedding, a great and lavish walimah take place which is also called as dawat-e walimah. The groom`s side is supposed to organize a beautiful wedding reception for the grand welcome for new bride. The bride is also introduced to new relatives and entire society members.
The Chauthi Ceremony
The last Islamic post wedding ceremony is the chauthi ceremony. In this ritual, a dinner is organized in bride maternity home for the newly married couple. It takes place when the bride first time visits her own house after marriage. After the dinner, the couples are showered with lots of love, gifts and wishes by family members.
